A Silent Voice is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshitoki Ōima, originally published as a one-shot in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine before being serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine from August 2013 to November 2014 and compiled into seven tankōbon volumes. It was digitally released in English by Crunchyroll Manga and licensed for North American publication by Kodansha USA. The series centers on Shoya Ishida, who once bullied Shoko Nishimiya, a girl who cannot hear, leading to her forced withdrawal from their elementary school. After years of separation, Shoya seeks redemption by reconnecting with Shoko and confronting the consequences of his past actions. The story explores themes of forgiveness, communication, and personal growth. An anime theatrical film adaptation was produced by Kyoto Animation and released in September 2016.
