About “Mission to Kala”
Medza, having failed his college exams, returns to his village in the Southern Cameroons. Despite his failure, he is seen as a scholar and gains great respect. A young woman has left her village with a man from another tribe, and Medza is asked to bring her back. When he arrives, he must wait for her return and stays with his uncle, who presents him as a learned man. Medza is treated with great respect, given gifts, and even married. He enjoys the attention but eventually must return to his home. There, he struggles to adjust to his family's way of life.
