About “Akira, Vol. 1”
Akira, Vol. 1 is the first volume of a Japanese cyberpunk post-apocalyptic manga series created by Katsuhiro Ōtomo, serialized in Kodansha's Young Magazine from 1982 to 1990 and collected into six tankōbon volumes. Set in Neo-Tokyo, a city built on the ruins of Tokyo after World War III, the story follows two teenagers who are targeted by government agencies after developing paranormal abilities. The manga was initially published in the United States by Marvel Comics under its Epic imprint and is now published by Kodansha Comics in North America.
