Alex, a little-known magic-shop proprietor in London, became infamous for defeating powerful Dark mages thanks to his second sight. Now training his apprentice, he uncovers a forbidden ritual in which someone is harvesting the life force of magical creatures, with humans next on the agenda, and finds that not everyone on the Council wants him investigating further.
