A bolt snap is a type of snap hook featuring a manually operated bolt action slide gate, used for temporarily securing or suspending light loads to rings, eyes, loops, or bights. It is commonly employed in applications such as dog leads and attaching scuba equipment to diving harnesses. A similar but more secure device used for attaching sails to a stay is known as a piston hank.
