Ahmad ibn Hanbal (780–855) was an Arab jurist, theologian, and traditionist, and the founder of the Hanbali school of Sunni jurisprudence. He is renowned for memorizing an exceptional number of hadith and compiled al-Musnad, one of the largest hadith collections, which has had lasting influence on the field of hadith studies.
