Abū al-Faraj al-Iṣbahānī, also known as Abul-Faraj, was a writer, historian, genealogist, poet, and musicologist of Arab-Qurayshite origin who was mainly based in Baghdad. He is best known as the author of the Kitab al-Aghani, a compilation preserving information about the earliest attested periods of Arabic music and about poets and musicians from the pre-Islamic period to his own time.
