Adam de la Halle (c. 1237 – c. 1288) was a French poet-composer and trouvère. One of the few medieval composers to write both monophonic and polyphonic music, he cultivated the admired older trouvère genres while also experimenting with newer dramatic works. Representing the final generation of the trouvère tradition, he has long been regarded as one of the most important musical and literary figures of thirteenth-century Europe.
