Aleksei Yeliseyevich Kruchenykh was a poet, artist, and theorist associated with Russian Futurism, a movement that included figures such as Vladimir Mayakovsky and David Burliuk. He is considered one of the most radical poets of the movement and co-inventor of zaum, a style of poetry using nonsense words, alongside Velimir Khlebnikov. Kruchenykh wrote the libretto for the Futurist opera Victory Over the Sun and authored the poem Dyr bul shchyl in 1912, as well as the book Universal War in 1916. He lived from 1886 until 1968.
