Aleksis Kivi was a Finnish writer who authored the first significant novel in the Finnish language, Seitsemän veljestä, published in 1870. He also wrote the 1864 play Nummisuutarit. Kivi is recognized as a national author of Finland, and he was born in 1834 and died in 1872.
