Saint Alphonsus Liguori was an Italian Catholic bishop, spiritual writer, theologian, and founder of the Redemptorists, a religious order that became influential in the Catholic Church. He was born on September 27, 1696, and died on August 1, 1787. Liguori was known for his contributions to Catholic theology and spiritual literature. He was canonized in 1839 by Pope Gregory XVI and was later declared a Doctor of the Church. His work continues to be respected within Catholic tradition.
