Anaïs Nin (1903-1977) was a French-born American author known internationally for her diary, eleven volumes of which have been published; the 35,000 handwritten pages of her journals are held at the UCLA library. Born in Paris to Cuban parents, she spent her early years in Cuba and Spain, her young adulthood in Paris, and moved to the United States in 1939 with her husband Hugo Guiler to avoid World War II.
