Andrew Marvell was an English poet, satirist, and politician who served in the House of Commons between 1659 and 1678. He was associated with John Milton during the Commonwealth period and wrote metaphysical poetry that included works such as "To His Coy Mistress," "Upon Appleton House," and "The Garden." His political writings included "An Horatian Ode upon Cromwell's Return from Ireland," while his later works featured personal and political satires like "Flecknoe" and "The Character of Holland." Marvell died in 1678.
