Anna Comnena was a Byzantine princess and historian who authored the Alexiad, a detailed account of the reign of her father, Emperor Alexios I Komnenos. She played a significant role in the political affairs of her time, including an attempt to depose her brother, Emperor John II Komnenos, in favor of her husband. Anna is recognized as the most important primary source for Byzantine history during the late 11th and early 12th centuries, as well as for the early Crusades. She was born in 1083 and died in 1153.
