Antonio Fogazzaro was an Italian novelist and proponent of Liberal Catholicism. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature seven times. His work often explored the conflict between duty and passion, faith and reason, leading characters to mystical experiences. He was born in 1842 and died in 1911.
