Anya Seton was born in New York and died in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Ernest Thompson Seton and Grace Gallatin Seton-Thompson. Her historical novels were noted for extensive research, and several became best-sellers, including Dragonwyck and Foxfire, which were adapted into Hollywood films. Her works, such as Katherine and Green Darkness, are considered classics in their genre and continue to be popular, with many recently republished, some including forewords by Philippa Gregory.
