Aristophanes (c. 446 - c. 386 BC) was an Ancient Greek comic playwright from Athens. He wrote forty plays, eleven of which survive virtually complete; most belong to the genre known as Old Comedy and were performed at Athenian religious festivals such as the City Dionysia and the Lenaia, where several won first prize. He is credited in our catalog in Nine Greek Dramas from the Harvard Classics. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
