Battista Guarini

Giovanni Battista Guarini was an Italian poet, dramatist, and diplomat who served as a courtier, diplomat, and secretary to several ruling families in Ferrara, Florence, and Urbino. He is best known as the author of the pastoral tragicomedy Il pastor fido, which was inspired by Tasso's Aminta and remained a popular work of secular literature in Western Europe for nearly two centuries. Guarini was born in 1538 and died in 1612.
