Boris Ford read English at Cambridge before the war. He served six years in the Army Education Corps, eventually commanding a residential School of Artistic Studies. After leaving the Army, he joined the Bureau of Current Affairs, rising to become its Chief Editor and later its Director. Following the Bureau's closure, he worked with the United Nations Secretariat in New York and Geneva, and later held academic and editorial roles at Cambridge University Press, Sheffield University, and the University of Sussex.
