He is best known for the Michael Shayne mystery series, which he created and later had others continue. Dresser also authored westerns, non-series mysteries, and romances under various pseudonyms, including Asa Baker, Matthew Blood, Kathryn Culver, Don Davis, Hal Debrett, Anthony Scott, Peter Field, and Anderson Wayne.
