Brian Selznick (born July 14, 1966) is an American illustrator and writer known for authoring children's books such as The Invention of Hugo Cabret (2007), Wonderstruck (2011), and The Marvels (2015). He received the 2008 Caldecott Medal for his illustration work on The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which recognized his contributions to U.S. picture book illustration. Selznick also created cover illustrations for Scholastic's 20th-anniversary editions of the Harry Potter series. His work often combines storytelling with detailed visual elements, and he is recognized for his contributions to children's literature.
