Carlos Castaneda (1925-1998) was a Peruvian-American author with a Ph.D. in anthropology. Starting with The Teachings of Don Juan in 1968, he wrote 12 books describing his training in shamanism under a Yaqui teacher, don Juan Matus; the books have sold over 28 million copies in 17 languages. He withdrew from public view in 1973 and founded Cleargreen, promoting Tensegrity.
