Carlos Fuentes Macías (1928–2012) was a Mexican writer known for his contributions to the Latin American Boom, a literary movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He was among the central figures of this movement, alongside Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Julio Cortázar. His novels include La región más transparente, La muerte de Artemio Cruz, and Aura. He received several literary awards, including the Rómulo Gallegos Prize in 1977, the Cervantes Prize in 1987, and the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature in 1994. He was frequently considered a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
