Charles Murray is a political scientist, author, and libertarian. He first gained national recognition in 1984 with the publication of Losing Ground, which has been cited as an intellectual foundation for the Welfare Reform Act of 1996. In 1994, he co-authored The Bell Curve with Richard J. Herrnstein, a controversial book that examined the role of IQ in shaping America's class structure. Murray has written several other books, including What It Means to Be a Libertarian (1997), Human Accomplishment (2003), In Our Hands (2006), Real Education (2008), and Coming Apart (2012). His most recent work, By the People: Rebuilding Liberty Without Permission (2015), explores themes of individual responsibility and self-governance.
