Charles Monroe "Sparky" Schulz was an American cartoonist and the creator of the comic strip Peanuts, which featured characters such as Charlie Brown and Snoopy. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was the only child of Dena and Carl Schulz. Schulz began drawing at an early age and was inspired by comic strips, particularly the Sunday funnies, which he read with his father. He pursued a career in cartooning after serving in World War II, eventually returning to St. Paul to focus on his artistic ambitions.
