Daisetsu Teitaro Suzuki, who lived from October 18, 1870 to July 12, 1966, was a Japanese Buddhist scholar and Doctor of Letters. He authored books and essays on Buddhism, Zen, and Shin that were instrumental in spreading interest in Zen, Shin, and Far Eastern philosophy generally to the West, and he was also a prolific translator of Chinese, Japanese, and Sanskrit literature.
