Daniel Pratt Mannix IV (1911-1997) was an American writer, journalist, photographer, sideshow performer, stage magician, animal trainer, and filmmaker, best known for his 1958 book Those About to Die, which stayed in print for three decades and inspired the film Gladiator, and his 1967 novel The Fox and the Hound, adapted by Disney in 1981.
