David Ives is an American playwright, screenwriter, and novelist known for his comic one-act plays, which The New York Times referred to as the "maestro of the short form" in 1997. He has written dramatic plays, narrative stories, and screenplays, as well as adapted French 17th and 18th-century classical comedies. Ives has also adapted 33 musicals for New York City's Encores! series. He was born in 1950.
