David Talbot Rice CBE was an English archaeologist and art historian, sometimes known as Talbot-Rice. He was born in Rugby and raised in Gloucestershire, educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, where he studied archaeology and anthropology. He became a staff member at the Oxford Field Museum's excavation in Kish, Iraq, while still an undergraduate, and later participated in British Academy expeditions in Constantinople. He married Elena Tamara Abelson, a Russian émigré and art historian, in 1927.
