Ronald Gordon King-Smith OBE, Hon.MEd (27 March 1922 – 4 January 2011) was an English writer of children's books who wrote primarily under the pen name Dick King-Smith. He is best known for The Sheep-Pig (1983), also titled Babe the Gallant Pig in the US, which was adapted into the 1995 film Babe. The book has been translated into fifteen languages. He received an Honorary Master of Education degree from the University of the West of England in 1999 and was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2010 New Year Honours. King-Smith had three children with his wife Myrle: daughters Juliet and Lizzie, and son Giles. His first book, The Foxbusters, was published in 1978.
