Dionysios Solomos

Dionysios Solomos was a Greek poet born on 8 April 1798 in Zante. He is regarded as the national poet of Greece. His most famous work is the poem Hymnos eis tin Eleftherian, or Hymn to Liberty, the first verses of which are used in the Greek National Anthem. Solomos wrote his poems in the demotiki dialect. He died on 9 February 1857.
