Dmitry Sergeyevich Merezhkovsky (1865-1941) was a Russian novelist, poet, religious thinker, and literary critic, and a seminal figure of the Silver Age of Russian Poetry regarded as a co-founder of Symbolism. With his wife, poet Zinaida Gippius, he was twice forced into political exile, and during his second exile (1918-1941) continued publishing novels while becoming a nine-time Nobel Prize nominee, coming closest to winning in 1933.
