Douglas Murray, a British author and political commentator born in 1979, was born in Hammersmith, London, to an English school teacher mother and a Scottish, Gaelic-speaking father from the Isle of Lewis who worked as a civil servant. He has one elder brother. He attended local state schools, then St Benedict's School, Ealing, and Eton College, taught briefly near Aberdeen, and studied English at Magdalen College, Oxford.
