Sir Ernst Hans Josef Gombrich, OM, CBE (30 March 1909 – 3 November 2001) was an Austrian-born art historian who became a naturalized British citizen in 1947. He lived and worked primarily in the United Kingdom. Gombrich authored numerous works on cultural and art history, including The Story of Art, a book recognized as an accessible introduction to the visual arts. He is known for his contributions to the field of art history through his writings.
