Edgar Lee Masters was an American attorney, poet, biographer, and dramatist. He is best known for writing Spoon River Anthology (1915) and other works including The New Star Chamber and Other Essays, Songs and Satires, and biographies of figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain. Masters authored twelve plays, twenty-one books of poetry, six novels, and six biographies. He was born in 1868 and died in 1950.
