Edith Mary Pargeter OBE BEM (28 September 1913 – 14 October 1995) was an English author who wrote in many categories, particularly history and historical fiction. She was also recognized for her translations of Czech classics. Pargeter is best known for her murder mysteries, which included both historical and modern settings. She wrote a medieval detective series titled The Cadfael Chronicles, which brought her widespread recognition. She was honored with the OBE and BEM for her contributions to literature.
