Edmund Burke (1729–1797) was an Anglo-Irish writer, philosopher, and politician, widely credited as the founder of the cultural and political philosophy of conservatism. He served as a member of Parliament in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1766 to 1794 with the Whig Party, and his writings played a significant role in shaping public opinion in Britain and France after the French Revolution of 1789.
