Eduardo Mendoza Garriga (Barcelona, January 11, 1943) is a Spanish writer known for his contributions to literature. His primary genre is the novel, but he has also written essays and short stories. He received the Planeta Prize in 2010 for his novel Riña de gatos. Madrid 1936 and the Cervantes Prize in 2016, the highest honor in the Spanish language. Among his novels are La verdad sobre el caso Savolta (1975), El misterio de la cripta embrujada (1979), El laberinto de las aceitunas (1982), La ciudad de los prodigios (1986), La isla inaudita (1989), and Sin noticias de Gurb (1991). He collaborated with his sister Cristina on Barcelona modernista (1989). He also wrote the Catalan-language play Restauració (1990), which he translated into Spanish as Restauración (1991).
