Edward Hallett "Ted" Carr CBE FBA (28 June 1892 – 3 November 1982) was a British historian, diplomat, journalist, and international relations theorist. He was an opponent of empiricism within historiography and is best known for A History of Soviet Russia, a 14-volume work covering the Soviet Union from 1917 to 1929. This includes The Bolshevik Revolution, 1917-1923, The Interregnum, Socialism in One Country, 1924-1926, and Foundations of a Planned Economy, 1926-1929. Carr also wrote on international relations, particularly The Twenty Years' Crisis, and authored What Is History?, in which he presented historiographical principles that rejected traditional historical methods.
