Eleanor Boylan was the author of the Clara Gamadge mystery series, which began with Working Murder in 1986. She was the niece of mystery writer Elizabeth Daly, whose Henry Gamadge series introduced the character Clara Gamadge. Boylan had been writing fiction since the 1950s, with short stories published in Ellery Queen, Alfred Hitchcock mystery magazines, and Yankee Magazine. In addition to her novels, she was a professional puppeteer and authored the children's book How to Be a Puppeteer, which was reprinted at least three times. She raised her family in Massachusetts before moving to Anna Maria Island in Florida in 1985, where she lived until her death in 2007.
