Epiphanius was the bishop of Salamis in Cyprus during the 4th century. He is recognized as a saint and a Church Father by the Eastern Orthodox, Catholic Churches, and some Presbyterians. He is known for composing the Panarion, a work that documented eighty heresies, including pagan religions and philosophical systems. He was a strong defender of orthodoxy and opposed the use of images in the church.
