Farid Al-Din Attar was a Persian poet, theoretician of Sufism, and hagiographer from Nishapur who had a significant influence on Persian poetry and Sufism. He wrote a collection of lyrical poems, long poems in the tradition of Islamic mysticism, and a prose work containing biographies and sayings of Muslim mystics. His notable works include The Conference of the Birds, Book of the Divine, and Memorial of the Saints. He was born in 1145 and died in 1221.
