Louis Fischer was an American journalist who wrote "The Life of Mahatma Gandhi," which served as the basis for the Academy Award-winning film "Gandhi" (1982). He also contributed to the ex-communist treatise "The God that Failed" (1949) and wrote "The Life of Lenin," which won the 1965 National Book Award in History and Biography. Fischer was born in 1896 and died in 1970.
