Flannery O'Connor was an American writer who lived from 1925 to 1964, particularly acclaimed for stories that combined the comic with the tragic and brutal. Along with authors such as Carson McCullers and Eudora Welty, she belonged to the Southern Gothic tradition focused on the decaying South and its damned people, and her body of work was small, comprising only thirty-one stories, two novels, and some speeches and letters.
