Francine Rivers is an American writer who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno. She began her writing career in the general market in 1976 and was recognized with numerous awards and nominations between 1976 and 1985. Raised in a religious home, she did not come to faith until later in life, after becoming a wife, mother of three, and established romance novelist. In 1986, after becoming a born-again Christian, she wrote Redeeming Love, a retelling of the biblical story of Gomer and Hosea set during the California Gold Rush. Published initially by Bantam Books, it was later re-released by Multnomah Publishers in the mid-1990s. It is considered a classic of Christian fiction and has remained a top seller for the Christian Booksellers Association for nearly a decade.
