Francisco Gómez de Quevedo Villegas y Santibáñez Cevallos was a Spanish nobleman, politician, and writer born in Madrid on 14 September 1580 and died in Villanueva de los Infantes, Ciudad Real, on 8 September 1645. He was a member of the Order of Santiago from 1618. Along with Luis de Góngora, with whom he had a lifelong rivalry, he was recognized as one of the most notable poets of Spanish literature. His work encompassed poetry, narrative, theater, and philosophical and humanist texts. His style was known as conceptismo, which contrasted with Góngora's culteranismo.
