Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, born Gómez Suárez de Figueroa, was a chronicler and writer from the Viceroyalty of Peru. He was the natural son of a Spanish conquistador and an Inca noblewoman and was educated in Spain after moving there at the age of 21. He is known for his chronicles of Inca history, culture, and society, which were widely read in Europe and marked the first literature by an author born in the Americas to enter the western canon. He lived and worked in Spain for the rest of his life.
