Garrett Putnam Serviss (1851–1929) was an American astronomer, popularizer of astronomy, and early science fiction writer. Born in Sharon Springs, New York, he studied science at Cornell University and took a law degree at Columbia, but worked instead as a journalist for The New York Sun from 1876 to 1892.
