Georges Bernanos

2 standalone books

Louis Émile Clément Georges Bernanos was a French author and soldier who served in World War I. A Catholic with monarchist leanings, he criticized elitist thought and opposed what he saw as defeatism, which he believed contributed to France's defeat and occupation in 1940. His two best-known novels, Sous le soleil de Satan and Journal d'un curé de campagne, feature a parish priest battling evil and despair. Most of his novels have been translated into English and published in Great Britain and the United States.
