Giacomo Girolamo Casanova was an Italian adventurer, writer, and diplomat born in Venice on April 2, 1725, and died in Dux, now known as Duchcov in Bohemia, on June 4, 1798. He was the brother of the painters Giovanni Battista Casanova and Francesco Casanova. Casanova was known as an archetypal seducer, with 132 romantic conquests attributed to him. His most significant work was an extensive autobiography titled Histoire de ma vie, also known as Memorias de Casanova, written in French, the dominant language of Europe at the time.
